While Anitta has been a major superstar in her home country of Brazil, over the last few years, dropping hit after hit like 2017’s “Vai malandra” and more recently “Envolver” in 2021, she’s now steadily begun making herself into a mainstream, household name in the U.S. as well.

LISTEN NOW: Audacy Check In with Anitta

Starting fresh with a brand new team behind her, these days Anitta is all about looking towards the future, rather the rehashing the past. Which is exactly what she did during her recent Audacy Check In with Mike Adam.

Sitting down for a conversation at the Hard Rock Hotel New York, Anitta discussed this next phase, all her upcoming plans, new music, and more.

“Right now I feel like I have people that are on the same page with me. Like we believe the same things, we agree on the ideas. And my dream was always to have an album the could bring my culture, Brazilian funk, and be very original and loyal to what my roots are… and not worry about the numbers right now… I just want to do my own thing, and if its successful - amazing, if not — we’re having fun.”

Well, taking Anitta’s latest single “Funk Rave” into account in regards to what is to be expected, let’s just say we see a whole lot of success and fun in the future for this Brazilian queen.

Putting Brazilian funk out “in an international way,” has been a career bucket list item for Anitta that she can now cross off. “For me that was my dream,” Anitta expressed, also sharing she has 7 music videos already shot and ready to go. Beyond just being a dream, Anitta said this project really showcases who she is. “I really feel like my personality is there,” as opposed to previous projects where “there was a lot of tries to be everywhere, to be on the charts, and now I feel like - ‘Hi, this is me for real.’”

“You’ll see, the more you listen, from the album, from the videos, you’ll be like ‘wow, everything makes so much sense.’”

Excited about what is still to come, Anitta divulged that in her humble opinion, her first fiery single, “Funk Rave,” isn’t even the best her album has to offer. “It’s kind of like the beginning, the start of the conversation. We didn’t want… the biggest hit of the album… to be the first one. We wanted like a warm up, a build up, so we’re just getting better. So the second one is even better, the third one is ever crazier, and the fourth one is like insane,” the singer added with excitement.

One of the reasons this particular project is a perfect presentation of who Anitta is, is because she brought over producers from Brazil to help contribute to the album. Additionally, Anitta once again teamed up with Diplo, who she explained is “very connected to the sound,” having lived in the Brazilian favelas himself. “I wanted producers who could understand the rhythm,” she said.

Bothered by recent headlines he read about Anitta, that pulled focus to her body and “skimpy” attire, Mike asked the singer if she ever felt over-sexualized by the media.

“No.” Anitta said, also admitting to having read the headline, having no idea what the meaning of skimpy was, and actually having no desire to look it up. “I like to be sensual… I mean funk music, Brazilian funk is very sexual, is very sensual. So it’s kind of like a consequence," she explained. "And I like to dress sexy and sensual, so that’s not something that catches my attention to be honest.” Knowing very well that “if people like that they will click,” and if they don’t "they won’t.”

However, “What really annoys me about news and stuff like that,” Anitta admitted, “is when its a lie, or they are faking something about me, then I care.” That being said, as of late Anitta has learned to not really let it get to her. Especially when photographs of her with her friend, turn into ridiculous rumors that she now has a girlfriend. “I don’t really look at these things, I used to when I was younger, nowadays it’s just so irrelevant… I just want to have a good time.”
