In today's public announcement, Mayor Sylvester Turner announced available resources for essential workers to find childcare. As of this morning those who are considered essential workers can register for childcare and for finacial support by visiting FindChildCareNow.org
All essential workers with children ages 0-12 are eligiable to participate on a first come first serve basis. City of Houston employees and Harris County employees can apply, and once a family center confirms their enrollment, care begins immediately.
Essential workers are those identified by the State or local jurisdiction essential to continued critical infrastructure viability. The State of Texas list can be found here.
Harris County, Collaborative for Children, and Texas Workforce Solutions partner with City of Houston to provide child care during health crisis.
Collaborative for Children's child care resource service is a FREE online database of child care providers in 13 counties of the Greater Houston area. For each provider, you'll find information such as hours of operation, licensing, ratios, accreditation, subsidy acceptance, languages spoken and special needs capabilities. They also report quality information such as National Accreditation, Texas Rising Star certification and ratings on their own scale of quality indicators.
