HOUSTON- The City of Houston and all of Harris County announce a new "Stay Home, Work Safe" effective 11:59 pm on Tuesday night.
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo says that new numbers from healthcare experts in the Houston area show that we "must take further steps" to stop the spread of COVID-19.
"This means that all of us should stay home unless our jobs are essential for the health and safety of our community," said Hidalgo.
Those who must work should remain six feet from each other and people can still care for a pet or a family member in another household.
Businesses, including grocery stores, will remain open.
"You need to be responsible. You must maintain social distancing," said Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. "You must stay at home to prevent the spread of COVIDD-19."
Restaurants will remain open for carryout, delivery and drive through. Daycares that provide support for essential employees will remain open.
