(SportsRadio 610) -- With Deshaun Watson's playing status uncertain for months and Texans training camp less than two weeks away, speculation of what happens next with the quarterback is running rampant.
Watson is facing 22 lawsuits alleging sexual assault and harassment, and it seems unlikely the Texans can trade him before those cases are somehow resolved.
The earliest Watson is scheduled to be deposed his February 2022, after this season, and it's unclear whether in the meantime the league will put him on paid leave or suspend him.
Teams should still be interested in the 25-year-old, three-time Pro Bowler and NFL passing leader last year.
ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter joined 97.5 The Fanatic's John Kincade show in Philadelphia on Wednesday morning and explained why he believes the Eagles are more equipped than any team to make a run at Watson.
“Let’s see how it plays out first. But, again, what I would say is if there are charges and he gets imprisoned or something happens to that effect, something far-reaching and damaging and awful … like a lot of this stuff seems, then, yeah, well, it’s not happening," Schefter said. "But I’m operating under the assumption somehow this will be settled, or he will serve his discipline for the league, or whatever punishment he has coming, whatever is fair and just, once that is done, I just think that at that point in time, whenever it is, when he is deemed ready to play by legal authorities, by the National Football League, to me, the Philadelphia Eagles should be waiting.”
Bleeding Green Nation, a blog covering the Eagles, has a useful timeline of the Watson-to-Philly rumors.
Schefter also said he sensed the Texans are ready to move on from Watson, reminding of the trade request that precedes the lawsuits. But the Texans are willing to wait until they can get full value for Watson, rather than simply trading him for less.
