Justin Britt has been in Tytus Howard's exact spot.

Starting at right tackle in one season, then moving to left guard the next.

Britt did it in Seattle as a rookie in 2014, even playing right tackle in the Seahawks' Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots.

Then in 2015, Britt was moved to left guard and later to center in 2016.

Six years later, in his first season with the Texans, Britt is able to share what he learned from this experience with third-year offensive lineman Howard, who's started 21 of 22 games at right tackle the past two seasons.

When coaches first moved Howard to left guard, which he hadn't played since the first game of his NFL career in 2019, Britt was there to offer advice.

"Just to hone in on it," Howard said of what Britt told him. "And don’t take it as 'oh you’ve just been moved.' Take it as 'oh they put you in a position to better yourself and to help the team' and I accepted that."

Howard was clear earlier in training camp when he spoke with In The Loop about his goal to win the job at right tackle.

But that job's likely going to second-year tackle Charlie Heck, setting up an interesting tandem on the left side with Howard and Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil.

"It’s going be real," Howard said excitedly of his pairing on the left side with Tunsil.

Britt said he just tried to make it stress free for Howard, over communicating in practice so he's comfortable and not thinking too much.

Having played the position before, it wasn't a completely foreign transition for Howard. But make no mistake, it's not an easy switch.

"You've just got to understand it's a different world, different beast," Britt said. "Not only are you switching your feet, but you're going from where you might take three or four kick slides before you make contact to you'd better get your first step down and get ready to go at guard.

"It's a quicker beast. You're playing people like Aaron Donald and (Ndamukong) Suh, and it's just a different world. You've just got to get comfortable, find your balance, and go out there and trust yourself."
