Appearing virtually on The Tonight Show Wednesday, Jackson opened up about releasing her tell-all docuseries. “I’m very thankful that so many people watched it and enjoyed it”, said Jackson.

According to Variety, Janet Jackson was cable’s best non-fiction debut since ESPN’s The Last Dance docuseries in 2020. The key demographic that watched were adults ages 25-49, primarily women.

During The Tonight Show interview, Jackson said that she was somewhat surprised about the documentary’s success “..I was just really so worried that people would find it boring to be quite honest with you,” Janet expressed.

She also revealed that her favorite part of the docuseries was part one. At the beginning of the documentary, Jackson talks about her family and the formation of the legendary Jackson 5.

The Janet Jackson documentary also features never-before-seen footage and behind the scenes moments including her first-ever live tour. The 4-hour encore presentation of Janet Jackson premieres on Friday at 8 p.m. ET Lifetime.
