Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon was among three finalists for Texans head coach, along with former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores and retired NFL quarterback Josh McCown, who has never coached beyond high school.

Gannon was informed as of Saturday he would not be getting the Texans job, according to Anderson, who added "the process is ongoing."

That leaves Flores, an accomplished defensive minded coach who was a coordinator for the New England Patriots when Texans general manager Nick Caserio was an executive there, and McCown, who the team has flirted with coaching since he was brought in as a third-string quarterback in 2020.

The Texans are looking for their third head coach in as many seasons after firing David Culley, who coached the team to a 4-13 record in his only year. They went 4-12 in 2020 under Bill O'Brien, who was fired after an 0-4 start, and Romeo Crennel, who took over as interim coach.
