Running into an ex can be horrifyingly awkward, that’s just facts. And that doesn’t change just because you’re Katy Perry and John Mayer. In fact it’s worse, because everyone records it and then shares it online.

Well, as the Internet is now very well aware of, due to some dark twist of fate or possibly just someone on Sabrina Carpenter’s VIP section team who woke up and chose chaos, Katy Perry and John Mayer were seated near each other at the Pop star’s Short n’ Sweet Tour stop in Los Angeles on November 18.
As seen in a captured clip currently circulating social media, the two exes, who dated on and off for nearly three years during the 2010s, ended up being seated just one row apart. And Katy’s totally hilarious reaction to seeing John take his seat is not only priceless but also hella relatable.
With her head turned to the side, Perry looked on as people in the row behind her began to take their seats, never expecting one of those people to be Mayer. As soon as Perry saw him, her face froze in the hilarious “oh s***” kind of way, quickly turning away to grab the railing in front of her, dipping her head to momentarily regroup — Same girl, same. Katy looked back up and extended out her hand to offer Mayer a friendly shake, which he reciprocated.
While the terms of their break-up have never really been fully clarified, the current vibe between them was giving cordial as the former flames seemed to be in each other's good graces, also seen having a brief chat ahead of the show.
Following their split in 2015, Perry began her romance with Orlando Bloom. The couple, who also had an on-and-off relationship since 2016, got engaged in 2019, and welcomed daughter Daisy the following year. Mayer’s notably slowed-down dating life has played out in the tabloids since their split, most recently being linked to actress Kiernan Shipka. For the most part, John has remained a perpetual bachelor.
After enjoying Sabrina’s show seated one row in front of her ex, Perry shared some photos she snapped with the “Espresso” singer backstage, as well as some pics posing with her nieces. “soooo @sabrinacarpenter show was too short but so sweet,” she captioned her post on IG. “Thanks for solidifying my FUNTIE status with my nieces & for playing my fave song ‘Lie to Girls’ IT JUST KILLS ME CAUSE IT FEELS LIKE YOUVE READ EVERY GIRLS DIARY WRITING THAT SONG.”
