Locker: Dameon Pierce is carrying Texans' offense. It's fun, but sad to watch

(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans fell to 1-7-1 after dropping their fourth straight game Sunday. The New York Giants beat them 24-16 in another unimpressive showing for the Texans.

Here are some observations from the game:

1. Brevin Jordan has had a disappointing start to his second year and was a healthy scratch in New York. Tight end was an area of concern last off-season and will be one this off-season. Jordan’s fit in the future of the position is even more up in the air than it was before the season.

2. Ian Eagle was on the call Sunday. It was cool to hear one of the best play-by-play guys on the call for a Sunday Texans game. I hope one day this is more of a normal thing.

3. We talked about Dexter Lawrence, one of the league’s most underrated players, eating today. He had a sack on the first drive of the game.

4. I understand the emotions and excitement of the game, but the Texans linebackers celebrating every play that goes for three yards or less like there is a turnover on downs is a bit much.

5. Personnel limitations are obvious, but Pep Hamilton going over a half decade between NFL play-calling gigs isn’t as mysterious to me now as it was before the season.

6. Pep handed the ball to Rex Burkhead on 3rd and 4 before punting on top of some other suspect decisions.

7. Brandin Cooks ran into the locker room briefly during the first quarter and the internet had some fun with it.

8. Dameon Pierce is carrying this offense. It’s fun yet sad to watch because of how much he’s being asked to do. He needs help. Nick Caserio taking the running back position seriously is on my off-season wish list. Get another stud back.

9. Rookie linebacker Christian Harris looks like a guy that can play some ball, one of the most relevant long-term bright spots.

10. Lovie Smith let over 20 seconds run off the clock on 4th down before calling timeout at the end of the second quarter to get the ball on offense. It didn’t matter because the offense didn’t do anything, but makes me wonder what the point of calling the timeout was.

11. Jalen Pitre is going to be a good player, but that Slayton TD will be one of the main features of his lowlight tape.

12. Nico Collins picking up where he left off before the injury and continuing his progress is another relevant long-term thing especially with the inevitabile departure of Cooks in the off-season.

13. The Texans are the only team in the NFL that doesn’t have two capable backs on the roster. It’s alarming.

14. On top of wanting to lose for the cause and the recent behavior of Cooks I wonder how many Texans fans were happy the Cooks TD got taken away by a penalty.

15. This was actually a productive noon slot of games for the people wanting the first pick. Pittsburgh won, Detroit won, Carolina already won. Plus, the Browns, who traded their first-rounder to Houston, lost.
