Locker: Despite game-killing fumble, this was Davis Mills' best game

(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans were really close to winning or tying against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

They didn’t do it, and fell to 1-12-1 on the season.

Here are some observations from the game.

1. I’m VERY glad they decided to keep the roof closed despite the original plan to open it. Fifty degrees or less is a no-go for me.

2. Derek Stingley Jr. and Dameon Pierce being out for the remainder of the season is a cautionary decision that wouldn’t happen if the games were still meaningful. I support the decision.

3. Stingley is going to be heavily-analyzed in the off-season and connected to Sauce Gardner, who went the pick after him and has had a great rookie season. It’s too early to write the book on the decision to go with Stingley over Sauce, but Sauce won the first-year battle in blowout fashion, regardless of why.

4. This was the trippiest thing in the Blue Lot before the game.

5. I’m not a fan of moving Tytus Howard back to guard for this game. I thought they were done with that.

6. Brandin Cooks was inactive again and now his mannequin is gone.

7. There were A LOT of Chiefs fans in the stands. Lots. Close to the ratio of opposing fans when Philly was here, but much more polite and pleasant.

8. Chris Moore should get an in-season extension. Good on special teams, has developed as a receiver and is a good guy to have on the roster.

9. Teagan Quitoriano has been very good since getting on the field. The tight end position is still going to be one of many off-season areas of focus, but he is showing signs of a guy that can be a nice piece.

10. Davis Mills, not Jeff Driskel, runs the ball into the end zone for 17 yards. Who would’ve thunk it.

11. This ballgame got extra chippy early on and in the first half the Texans were clearly the tougher team.

12. Kansas City had multiple occasions where players were begging for flags after hard tackles or moderate contact. They’re really good, but whether they can avoid getting physically dominated in a playoff game is in question.

13. Tremon Smith, Desmond King II and Jalen Pitre have played their asses off the last few weeks. Forgive my cliche, but they add an element of grit to this team.

14. This was the best performance of the season for Davis Mills, not even close.

15. Brevin Jordan, who has had his share of drops, had the most impressive catch of his career to move the chains in the fourth quarter.

16. The Texans bringing in Driskel on first down of the drive that resulted in a game-tying field goal (to make it 24-24) seemed like a drive killer, especially with how well Mills was playing.

17. Andy Reid settling for the long FG attempt at the end of the fourth quarter was a suspect decision, especially given Harrison Butker had missed an extra point earlier.

18. The Mills fumble in overtime, while good for the dream of the top pick, still felt like a kick to the junk. This is why Mills can’t have nice things.
