Let the draft pick trading begin. The Patriots and Texans are getting a head start on moving around the draft board, reportedly striking a deal involving late-round picks on Monday, three days before the 2022 NFL Draft begins Thursday night.

New England is sending a fifth-round pick (170 overall) to Houston in exchange for a sixth (183 overall) and a seventh-round pick (245 overall), the teams announced Monday.

The Patriots had previously acquired No. 170 from Tampa Bay in a deal for Shaq Mason.

The Texans, meanwhile, now have just two sixth-round picks after trading away No. 183. They still have Nos. 205 and 207 overall.

In addition to the fifth-round pick and the two sixth-rounders, Houston has two firsts, a second, two thirds, and two fourths.

Of course, there is plenty of familiarity between these front offices. Texans general manager Nick Caserio spent 20 years in the Patriots organization working with Bill Belichick prior to taking the Houston job in Jan. 2021.
