Why so serious?
Jared Leto is getting back into character to portray iconic villain the Joker.
The 49-year-old famously took on the sinister supervillain in the 2016 film “Suicide Squad” and will reprise the role for the upcoming director’s cut of “Justice League.”
Zack Snyder, who is releasing his version of the 2017 film, teased a first look of Leto as the psychopath in the movie.
"Amazing character you created,” Snyder captioned a black and white shot of the actor holding up a joker playing card. "Honored to have our worlds collide. @DavidAyerMovies @JaredLeto."
Although Leto’s face is blurred, his white makeup, shoulder-length hair and a sinister smile are visible.
The upcoming version is officially titled “Zach Snyder’s Justice League” and is set to air on HBO Max. The project was previously set to premiere as four episodes on the streaming platform, but will now launch as a 4-hour movie in March, according to CNBC.
The inclusion of Leto also adds speculation as to how big a role he will have in the film as the Joker didn’t appear in the original 2017 version.
There were also previously reports of animosity between Leto and Warner Bros. after the studio cast Joaquin Phoenix in Todd Phillip’s 2019 blockbuster “Joker.”
In addition to Leto, “Zach Snyder’s Justice League” will also feature the return of Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ezra Miller as the Flash.
“Zach Snyder’s Justice League” will start streaming on HBO Max on March 18th.
