HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) - Well, it's Sunday, which means another chance to dissect another Texans loss. With the Seattle Seahawks beating them 33-13 at NRG Stadium, Houston falls to 2-11 on the season.
Let's jump right into it.
1. Davis Mills is a better quarterback than Tyrod Taylor right now. I doubt he’s the quarterback of the future, but he’s better than Taylor at the moment.
2. Rookie tight end Brevin Jordan will be in the tight end rotation next year, but his role and the position as a whole has many questions. Can he be a starter? Can he become a more complete TE? With Jordan Akins and Pharaoh Brown being free agents after the season, who will join Jordan in the TE room?
3. David Culley needed to kill another timeout to decide to kick a field goal from the three-yard line to tie the game. The good: it was the right decision to kick there. The bad: he needed to use a timeout to make the right decision that wasn’t that difficult. I’ll grade on a curve based on Culley’s brief history. Progress!
4. Two really good punters were on display at NRG on Sunday. Cam Johnston and Michael Dickson, who was the MVP of the Texas Bowl in the final game of his college career, the last time he punted at NRG. These are the storylines you search for during a rough season.
5. Kamu Grugier-Hill’s season might be done, but he should get an in-season extension and be brought back.
6. Russell Wilson sniffed out Lonnie Johnson Jr. when he was on the field at corner. The touchdown pass to D.K. Metcalf that got called back was zone coverage, but it was clear throughout that drive Wilson wanted to throw where Johnson was.
7. This is what a tale of two halves looks like. Dunno what the hell Tim Kelly was talking about when he said the Indy game last week was the tale of two halves, but the observation would be accurate this week.
8. It seems evident Jordan Akins isn’t part of the Texans immediate or future plan. Andre Ware seemed frustrated on the broadcast by the lack inability to utilize Akins.
9. Seattle noise dominated the half-full NRG stands. It made listening to the game on the radio confusing because usually before Vandy makes the call you can anticipate which team made a good play, but not in this one.
10. Chris Myers mentioned Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson as a potential Texan. He’s going to be the name that gets the majority of this fan base the most excited heading into the draft in April.
11. This game was perfect for the Texans.
12. Has David Johnson played his last snap as a Texan? It seems to make more sense to use the other guys in the building and bring new guys into the building at this point.
13. The need for a loss next Sunday in Jacksonville is HUGE. The Texans need to lose this one. It would be huge for draft position. I think they’re bad enough to make that happen, but the Urban Meyer bleep show makes me nervous.
14. Russell Wilson potentially being on the market with Deshaun Watson this offseason is intriguing. I just got back from New York and people out there seem to believe Wilson will be a Giant.
15. Four more games to go for the 2-11 Texans. Am I the only one who looks at the extra game on the schedule and feels like that’s such a massive difference from 16 to 17 games?
Maybe it’s just the visual for someone who covers or follows a sucky team. I’m sure if the Texans were one of the many teams with playoff hopes, the extra game would look heavenly.
