Texans hire former Lions character coach Dylan Thompson: report

(SportsRadio 610) -- The Texans have a new character coach from South Carolina.

Dylan Thompson, a former quarterback at South Carolina and most recently a character coach for the Detroit Lions, is joining the Texans.

Thompson's time at South Carolina briefly crossed over with Texans executive vice president of football operations Jack Easterby, who was the character coach there from 2005-2010. Thompson was a redshirt freshman in 2010.

The two worked together at The Greatest Champion Foundation, which provides "character building curriculums and activities that will aid in 'influencing today's influencers,'" according to its website. Easterby recommended Thompson for his former job as character coach for the Charleston Southern basketball team, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Thompson signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and spent some time with the Los Angeles Rams in 2016. He joined Charleston Southern in 2017 before moving on to the Lions in 2018.
