(SportsRadio 610) - Texans linebacker Christian Kirksey practiced this week with a cast to protect his injured thumb and intends to play wearing it Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.
Kirksey was injured last Sunday trying to make a tackle in the second quarter at Arizona.
"Things happen, you got to keep playing," the Texans middle linebacker said Thursday. "It’s part of the game and you just got to push through it."
Kirksey told reporters he will try not to think about having the cast, though it will limit his ability to grip when shedding blocks.
In his role, Kirksey is the Texans' defensive signal caller, so losing him would impact communication. Neville Hewitt could also fill the middle linebacker role, as well as Kamu Grugier-Hill. But expect Kirksey to play.
"He’s the quarterback of our defense," Texans defensive coordinator Lovie Smith said Thursday. "Everything goes through Christian Kirksey. He’s a good football player and he’s played outstanding ball for us."
