(SportsRadio 610) - Defensive tackle Maliek Collins is re-signing with the Texans on a two-year deal worth $17 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The new contract includes $8.5 million guaranteed.
Re-signing Collins was a priority for the Texans this offseason, as he's considered to be their most disruptive interior defensive lineman.
Last year, Collins ranked sixth in pass rush win rate among defensive tackles, and did so without a lot of production from Houston's revolving door of edge rushers. He signed with the Texans in 2021 on a one-year deal worth $5 million and now gets a healthy raise.
Bringing Collins back means the Texans have three of their four starting defensive lineman, and they could draft an edge rusher at No. 3 overall in next month's draft.
"He's an excellent football player," Texans head coach Lovie Smith said earlier this month from the NFL Scouting Combine. "He fits the profile. He's athletic. ... If you say one position where it all starts, it's our three technique under tackle position. ... I think Maliek was just at the tip of the iceberg on what we can be. There's so much more that he'll be able to do going forward."
