(SportsRadio 610) -- The Texans created $5.63 million in salary cap space by restructuring inside linebacker Zach Cunningham's contract, the Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday.
Cunninham was due an $8.5 million fully guaranteed base salary this season. The Texans converted $7.51 million in a signing bonus, lowering his salary to $990,00 whereas Cunningham still gets all of his money.
The move lowers the Texans' salary-cap figure this year from $11.4 million to $5.767 million, as the Chronicle's Aaron Wilson reported.
Cunningham, the NFL's leading tackler in 2020, signed a four-year, $58 million contract before the season, when he was a paid a $12 million signing bonus.
