Defensive tackle P.J. Hall, who was one of the Texans more productive players on that side of the ball before his injury last season, is returning to the team.
Hall is being retained by the Texans on a $2.133 million restricted free agent tender, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.
Before suffering a torn pectoral, which required season-ending surgery, Hall had 34 tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss and two quarterback hits in 10 games last season.
Hall was a second-round pick by the Raiders out of Sam Houston State in 2018. The Raiders traded him to the Vikings last year, but the trade was nixed after Hall failed his physical, allowing the Texans to sign him.
The Texans are also signing veteran defensive tackle Vincent Taylor to a one-year, $2 million contract, former Cowboys defensive tackle Maliek Collins on a one-year deal worth up to $6 million; and Sunday traded linebacker Benardrick McKinney for edge rusher Shaq Lawson.
The moves by first-year general manager Nick Caserio hope to take an inexpensive route to bolstering a defense which ranked 29th in rush DVOA, which measures efficiency defending the run and 26th in quarterback pressures per dropback.
