Texans sign CB Steven Nelson to two-year, $10 million deal: report

(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans have a new cornerback after signing veteran Steven Nelson to a two-year, $10 million deal, according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson.

Nelson spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he started all 16 games at corner. He spent the previous two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and four seasons before that with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Nelson has been a starter since his second season in Kansas City (2016) and has never played fewer than 83 percent of his team's defensive snaps other than his rookie year.

For his career, Nelson has eight interceptions, 59 passes defended, 10 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and four fumble recoveries.

Texans head coach Lovie Smith, who was the team's defensive coordinator last year, was clear about the cornerback position not being good enough last year. Smith also said the Texans could not play the kind of football they want until they improve at corner.

At the same time, Nelson was meeting with the team, and top cornerback prospect Derek Stingley Jr. of LSU was also in the building visiting.
