(SportsRadio 610) - Just over a month after selecting former Alabama linebacker Christian Harris in the third round of the NFL Draft, the Texans have signed the rookie to a contract.
The deal for Harris, according to Pro Football Network's Aaron Wilson, is for four years, $5.34 million with a $1.069 million signing bonus.
With the Harris signing, the Texans now have all of their draft picks under contract as voluntary organized team activities continue.
When asked about Harris, Texans general manager Nick Caserio spoke about him fitting the profile for head coach Lovie Smith's system, with the ability to run and cover. Harris was moved from the secondary to linebacker when he arrived at Alabama with Nick Saban.
Since arriving with the team, Harris has been quiet, but his veteran teammate and fellow linebacker Christian Kirksey says the rookie is taking in all of the information he can.
"He doesn't say too much which is good because he's a sponge," Kirksey said after Wednesday's practice. "He's soaking up all the knowledge he can and the kid is fast. He's athletic. Obviously coming from a great program in Alabama, I know that Nick Saban polished him well and got him ready to go, but I've seen flashes of him being able to go out there and contribute. Now, you don't see that all the time in a rookie, but he's picking it up fast, and I'm happy that he's here."
