(SportsRadio 610) -- The Texans are hiring veteran assistant James Campen as their next offensive line coach, according to multiple reports.
Campen spent last season as the offensive line coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. He was previously the offensive line coach and associate head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and held various coaching roles for the Green Bay Packers from 2004 to 2018, including o-line coach and run game coordinator.
Campen joins the Texans on a three-year contract, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson. He replaces Mike Devlin, who had been the Texans' offensive line coach since 2015.
While the Texans' o-line seemingly has improved its talent in the past two seasons, drafting right tackle Tytus Howard and trading a pair of first-round picks for Laremy Tunsil, the unit still struggled throughout 2020.
The Texans could not successfully run block (ranking 30th), and as injuries mounted, they struggled to pass block for Deshaun Watson.
Pro Football Focus ranked the Texans' offensive line 23rd in 2020, noting Tunsil as the only real bright spot of the group.
