HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- The Texans are playing third-year offensive lineman Tytus Howard all over the place at training camp.
It might seem like a no-brainer that Howard would be the incumbent right tackle for Houston, since he's adequately started 23 games at the position over the past two seasons.
But Howard's lining up at right tackle, left guard, and left tackle during training camp.
When he joined In The Loop straight off the practice field Tuesday, Howard was clear about wanting to win his job at right tackle, though he understands the value in knowing all of the other positions.
"My favorite position to play is tackle," Howard told ITL's John Lopez and Landry Locker. "I love playing tackle. I love it because it offers be the ability to use my natural-given athleticism. So I love to play tackle. But I'm not going to say I don't like playing guard, because I do like playing guard also.
"My goal: I want to win my job at tackle. But if it helps my team to play inside, I'm going to do it."
Not only does Howard want to win his job at right tackle, but even wants to outplay Pro-Bowl teammate Laremy Tunsil.
Howard has admired Tunsil's success up close the past two seasons, wants to replicate and then exceed it.
"I see Laremy. I look at him and I see what he does on the field and I want to be up there," Howard said. "So my goal this year is to grade out higher than him each and every game and give my team the best possible way to win.
"I just see myself taking a big jump. I know my team needs me to take a big jump and that's what I plan on doing."
