(SportsRadio 610) - With Tom Brady officially announcing his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday, just about anyone who has watched him play over the past 22 years are sharing thoughts on the greatest quarterback to ever do it.
Texans general manager Nick Caserio is among them, but he does so with intimate knowledge of what made Brady so great. They spent 19 seasons together with the New England Patriots, before Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, then Caserio for Houston last year.
The Texans' general manager called it "an honor and a privilege to share 19 years" with Brady and said he's a better person for being around him.
"Tom Brady is greatness defined," Caserio's statement says. "In a results-driven business, it all starts with the work and Tom never shied away from it. It was not always easy and that work often came with sacrifice, but his unwavering discipline and commitment is something to admire and appreciate. He pushed the boundaries and made all of us push ourselves. Ultimately, football is about people and there has been no finer person and no better player than Tom Brady. He cares deeply for others and always found a way to put those around him at ease despite his larger than life status. It was an honor and a privilege to share 19 years together with Tom in New England and I'm a better person for having been around him. Congratulations on a historic career, you will be missed."
Caserio was hired by New England as a personnel assistant in 2001, just one year after Brady was drafted by the team. Together, they won six Super Bowls, with Brady winning five Super Bowl MVPs. The Patriots' success in that time undoubtedly helped raise Caserio's profile as a scout, coach and executive.
