- The team at FinanceBuzz analyzed car theft data from all 50 states to find the most frequently stolen models in each state.
- Overall, the Hyundai Elantra was the most stolen vehicle in the U.S. last year.
- It was the top stolen car in 21 states, with more than 31-thousand stolen just in 2024.
- Another Hyundai, the Sonata, is the second-most stolen car model in the U.S.

- There were more than 58-thousand thefts of Elantras and Sonatas last year alone, making the two most popular Hyundai models the two most stolen cars in the country.
- Part of that may be because of TikTok videos that went viral in 2023 showing people starting engines of those cars with just a screwdriver and USB cable. And an increase in thefts followed.
