It’s not every day you get a compliment from a knight, well apparently that’s not the case for Conan Gray.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 6 Music, Sir Elton John discussed his already well known opinion and dislike for the music on today's radio. John expressed that he’s a big fan of artists like Conan because he writes his own songs, noting “he’s the only person in the American Spotify Top 50 to actually write the song without anybody else. Everybody else there’s four or five writers on (a track). You look at most of the records in the charts – they’re not real songs. They’re bits and pieces and it’s nice to hear someone write a proper song.”
Funny story, when Conan caught up with RADIO.COM earlier this year he shared that he comes up with lyrics in very strange places. “Maniac,” came to him in the shower, which seems to be on trend, as the bathroom is where most of his lyrical inspo originates.
Back to Elton, he summed up his thoughts quite simply, “I like people who write songs.” He also acknowledged that while there’s plenty of artists that do that, they don’t necessarily get radio plays. He further cemented his distaste for today’s modern ways of production, “we get songs made by a computer all the time and I’m not interested in that.”
We for one were already fans of Gray, and now that Elton’s given the two thumbs up, it just assure’s that Conan’s the real deal. Still need convincing, Conan’s debut album Kid Krow dropped March 20 of this year, go and check him out for yourself.
