Eddie Vedder will provide a gritty rock soundtrack to the 2020 The Game Awards, celebrating the year’s best video game releases and cultural moments.

The Pearl Jam frontman was picked to entertain the livestream audience Thursday, December 10. Show organizers tweeted the news with a slick graphic and message stating, “We're honored to welcome Eddie Vedder from @pearljam who will be performing during #TheGameAwards.”

Fans of the popular gaming series The Last of Us will hopefully be treated to some Pearl Jam classics, as many of their tracks are featured in the game. Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, The Game Awards are slated to be a virtual event in 2020. Some portions of the production will span the globe in locations like Los Angeles, Tokyo and London. Streaming access is free for fans eager for a virtual escape. Check out their website for more details.

This year has been about giving back for Eddie. Last month he released two piano driven tracks written for those afflicted with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare condition that causes chronic blistering and sometimes permanent damage to the skin. A pair of companion music videos for “Matter of Time” and “Say Hi” depict the pain and suffering for many afflicted with the EB.

His band teamed up with other popular artists in May for the All In WA COVID-19 relief concert. The statewide relief effort worked to empower the public and provide support for workers, families, and communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
