Gerard Way posted a cryptic image that has My Chemical Romance fans hopeful new music is on the way.

Upon first glance most people would write the image off as dark interference. Look closer and notice the apparent statue of a Virgin Mary. Flashes of black and gold obscure the pious figure’s face. It’s hard to make out exactly what’s going on here, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t guess!

Many stans pointed back to a July 2019 post from Gerard that depicts a similar statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Soon it was determined the photo’s location was Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Milton Keynes, England. Want to dig even deeper into the social cryptic universe? MCR first started teasing their 2020 reunion in the UK (cue X-Files intro music).

Some fans suggested the post could signify more information about My Chem’s reunion tour. The band was set to kick off a 2020 world tour with shows in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Europe. Their North American tour was set to begin September 9 but the coronavirus pandemic stopped most live shows due to safety concerns. They’ve since rescheduled shows for 2021.

“We would never want to distract from the challenges we are facing right now, but we feel it is the right thing to let people know that we have rescheduled our shows, so that we can offer people a refund on tickets in these difficult financial times,” the group wrote in an emotional Instagram post. “Take care of each other and yourselves. We will see you soon.”
