Country star Brandi Carlile has teamed up with the surviving members of Soundgarden for a tribute to late singer Chris Cornell, and will release the track as part of Record Store Day 2020.
Surviving members Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron of the iconic Seattle grunge band worked with Carlile as well as her frequent musical partners Phil and Tim Hanseroth on the song which will be released as a 12-inch-single on September 26th.
No stranger to the world of rock, Carlile explained the relationship on Instagram, saying: “The twins and I met in the late 90’s in a famous Seattle studio called London Bridge. The guy in the picture with me is Rick Parasher (RIP) and he introduced us. Soundgarden were just gods to us back then. Total pioneers and unreachable to us in every way. We went about making our demos and cleaning the studio when we couldn’t afford the bill never knowing that in November of 2019 we would go back to London Bridge and RECORD TWO SONGS WITH THEM!! [Chris Cornell] was as great as a human singer can get and now he’s an angel. Thank you Kim, Ben, and Matt. I’ll never forget this day for as long as I live.... stay tuned!!"

Record Store Day 2020 will look a lot different this year, with music retailers still shut amid the COVID-19 health crisis, compounded by almost a week of civil unrest. But rest assured, rare and newly released vinyl from some of your favorite artists will still be available online in the coming months.
Looking ahead, Carlile will take part in the June 10th 'All In WA' virtual concert along with Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and many more to benefit pandemic relief efforts in Washington State.
Cornell's daughter, Lily, has stepped up to help as well with her new Mind Wide Open interview series, aimed at raising awareness for those struggling with mental health issues and to provide the resources to help.
