Sporting a fierce four CMA nominations glow, Carly Pearce stopped by to chat with RADIO.COM's Katie Neal backstage at the 2020 CMA Awards.
Yup, that’s correct y’all, Carly has snagged herself four nominations at this years ceremony including, Music Video of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Musical Event of the Year. While she’s honored by all four nominations, for Carly, Best New Artist ranks supreme. “I want that one,” she declared before flashing an adorable grin.
When posed with the thought of winning all four and having to give four different acceptance speeches, Carly was left a bit baffled. “If I won one, you would like have to help me make it to the stage,” she quipped. “If I won more than one, they might as well just bring a stretcher.”
The two talked about how they’re both mutually bummed out Lee Brice, Carly’s duet partner for Song of the Year nominee “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” wont be able to be there. Brice is currently quarantining at home with the coronavirus, in his absence, Charles Kelley from Lady A will be filling in.
“I mean if you’re going to have a stand in Charles Kelley is a pretty dang good one,” Carly expressed. Admitting that while she will miss Lee, Charles “sounds perfect on the song,” and that she’s just “grateful to be able to do this.”
Another discussion topic and always a fan favorite, was of course, the evenings wardrobe. Carly revealed that both her performance and red carpet looks were styled by her and her mother. “It was kind of like a fun thing for my mom and I,” especially since her mother has been dealing with some health issues. Carly admitted, “it’s been scary with Covid,” noting that they “haven’t been able to spend a lot of time together.” While her mom will have to watch from home, “it’s just been really cool… she’s so good at fashion, so it’s been fun to do,” she added
