Our Audacy Country "Hit Pick of the Week" is Zac Brown Band’s “Same Boat.”
The single is the first taste of new music from the group’s upcoming album with a new label, and is a feel-good, call for unity across the nation.
“It’s just a feel good song,” lead singer, Zac Brown, told Audacy’s Katie Neal. “You can just listen to it and feel good, or you can really listen to the words and be like ‘yeah, this is true. We need things to bring us together right now.’”
The song is one of many Zac wrote in his time off during quarantine, which he credits for allowing him to take a step back and reflect on the things that matter most. He hopes the song will serve as a reminder to fans all over to choose unity.
“I hope this all reminds us in perspective that as we get out there, back in the world and live in gratitude, that we can just be really good and and tolerant of other people,” Zac expressed. “Even if their beliefs are different than ours…. I’m hoping we can just get out there and realize how great we have it in this country, together.”
Zac went on to recite lyrics from the song’s bridge saying, “Take those shots and keep reloading, if you can’t be nice, then don’t say nothing at all. So help somebody that might be struggling, spread a little love, gotta give back somethin’. And if this ship keeps Rockin’ we’ll all go overboard.”
In addition to new music, the group recently announced their 2021 Comeback Tour, set to kick-off August 5 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ.
“I’m just full of love and energy and fire and ready to go out and help everybody else to feel that and kind of unite,” Zac said.
The band is also celebrating the 13-year anniversary of their debut single, “Chicken Fried,” which was their first #1 song and continues to be a fan favorite to this day.
“We knew, back then it was a big song,” Zac recalled while reflecting on the days he used to play it during his gigs at sports bars. “We knew it was worth fighting for… That was the song that kicked everything off for us and [we’re] so blessed to have this career and do what we do
