Speaking with Audacy’s Kelly Ford, Young was tasked with playing the role of manager and filling out his lineup sheet entirely made up of his fellow Country artists.

For one, the title of manager won’t suit Young well. It’d be modified to player-manager. “I’m pitching, I’m definitely pitching,” he said. Without further adieu, let’s see Young’s Opening Day lineup made up entirely of Country artists.

Chris Young’s Opening Day Roster

Catcher - Chris Lane
1B - Chase Rice
2B - Kelsea Ballerini
SS - Scotty McCreery
3B - Ashley McBryde
CF - Shay Mooney
RF - Carrie Underwood
LF - Michael Hobby
Pinch Hitter - Chris Young
Ball Boy - Charles Kelly

Here’s his rationale for why he chose specific artists to play their position. For one, Young says McCreery “beat me at ping pong last year so he must be a great athlete.”

As for putting Shay Mooney in centerfield, Young says “centerfield has to cover a lot of ground and when I look at Shay I think he’s like a little Speedy Gonzales, so I want him out there. He’s little and he must be really fast.”

When asked to name the team’s ball boy, Young said “I’m not going to do that to anybody, I’m not going to make anybody ball boy get outta here!”

After a little bit of prying, we finally got an answer. “You know who I’ll make ball boy? Charles Kelly, cause after I beat him at ping pong in the same tournament he crawled on top of me on the ping pong table.”
