To wrap up the week-long feature, LeVox chatted with Katie about everything from the worst wardrobe malfunction he’s ever had on stage to the upcoming talent he’s most excited for, as well as his first memories of the mega-successful trio on stage together.
“The first time I ever met Joe Don [Rooney], this was before we even had a record deal, was [when] Jay [DeMarcus] and I were actually playing at the the Fiddle and Steel Guitar Bar, little honky tonk here in Nashville,” LeVox recalls.
“Our guitar player didn’t show up, Joe Don sat in and first song we ever did was 'The Church on Cumberland Road,' a Shenandoah song and it was like ‘WOW! What was that? So whatever this was just happened and it really is good.’”
Little did the trio know that was the very beginning of their incredibly successful career including countless accolades, numerous #1's and memories from the road to last a lifetime… like that one time Gary ripped his pants.
“I ripped the crotch of my pants on like, the second song, so I had to do the whole show, like it wasn’t towards the end,” Gary shared while laughing. “There’s nothing you can do… that was miserable.”
What Gary doesn’t find miserable is the endless new talent coming out of Nashville these days. When asked who he is most excited for, LeVox had a long list including Gabby Barrett, Jimmie Allen, Dan + Shay, Chris Lane, Luke Combs and more.
You can add Gary LeVox’s name to our “excited for” list, as he just started his solo career after retiring Rascal Flatts. LeVox most recently released “The Distance,” which followed his 2020 single, “A Little Love.” His solo album, One On One, is set to release May 21.
