CMA Performance Preview: Lady Antebellum, Dan + Shay, Keith Urban, and More

Artists tell us what to watch for during Wednesday night’s show

The 2019 CMA Awards are packed with performances. Country music’s biggest night features first time collaborations, powerful tributes, and massive medleys dedicated to the legendary women of Country music. But before our favorite artists take the stage, they shared with us some of the details and hidden easter eggs you can watch for on Wednesday night.

Pop and Country collide during the show, as Lady Antebellum has a special performance planned with Halsey. The two plan to weave their new music together for something special on the CMA stage.

“We are actually headed from here to rehearsals with her off-site to kind of nail down the arrangement,” Hillary Scott explains to RADIO.COM in the exclusive video above. “We’re gonna be mashing up our current single, ‘What If I Never Get Over You’ with one of her songs. So we’re really excited.”

Dan + Shay are continuing their amazing 2019, by bringing their hit “Speechless” to the stage. This time though it will sound like it never has before. “It was a big single for us. Big song, changed our lives. Our fans took it to the top,” Dan Smyers shares backstage before the CMAs. “We’ve done the song on TV a couple times now, but CMA Awards, it’s big. This is a big moment for us so we rearranged the song. It’s gonna be a special performance for sure."

2018’s Entertainer of the Year winner has a lot to live up to this year, as Keith Urban returns to the CMA stage. This year he’s doing it with a special edition of his song, “We Were.”

“This summer I was doing it live, a stripped down version with just an acoustic guitar, just giving the song a different kind of connection to everybody,” says Urban. “So I’m going to be doing that version on Wednesday night.”

Keith hasn’t thought ahead on any special easter eggs within the performance, but Shay Mooney has been working on his moves. “I’m gonna try to do some special moves I’ve never done,” he laughs, serving up some looks and turns towards the camera.

Old Dominion also has something special they’ve been working on for Wednesday night. The band, which previously snuck an easter egg by us before, is already scheming for what’s next.

“Trevor is gonna hit one wrong note. See if you can find it,” laughs singer Matthew Ramsey.

“You know what actually I’ve always wanted to do,” Trevor Rosen jumps in. “I don’t play until the second verse, and I want to hide behind the keyboard and as my part comes in I just want to slowly come up,” he laughs as he rises from the bottom of the screen.
