In tandem with the release of his IMDB docuseries, Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary, which honors family members tragically lost by Luke Bryan during his upbringing, Luke is also paying a special tribute to his late brother, Chris, with a new song.
“Songs You’ve Never Heard,” written by Bryan, alongside Luke Laird and Josh Osborne, offers a look inside the unique, Country-music-centered bond Luke shared with his brother before he was tragically killed in a car accident at the age of 26.
“Mine and his connection to Country music was a big connection for us,” Luke told Audacy’s Katie Neal. “The newest, biggest, awesome song, he and I always loved to jam [to] in our cars.”
Bryan went on to share he often thinks of his brother to this day when he listens to new music, wondering what he would have to say about the biggest songs today.
“That’s where I still am,” Bryan said. “The first time I’ve heard any song that’s one of those Song of the Year caliber songs in Country music, I’m always wondering how my brother would’ve reacted to it and how much he would’ve loved it.”
He continued, “The first time I heard ‘Run,’ I never will forget. I was like, ‘I wish my brother was here,’ because he was such a big George Strait fan. [I was like] ‘Gosh, I wish he were here to enjoy this song.’”
While Luke admits he still struggles emotionally surrounding the loss of his brother and other family members, he finds it important to share his story whole-heartedly in the hopes of helping others.
“Tons of emotions behind it,” Bryan said of the songwriting and recording process. “That’s what you have to do when you’re laying’ yourself out there, you have to tell that story and be caught up in the emotion.”
Episodes 1-5 of Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary are available now via IMDb TV.
