In November, Miranda Lambert stopped by RADIO.COM’s New York’s Country 94.7 to talk about her new album, along with her husband Brendan McLoughlin. Lambert shared her inspiration for Wildcard, but also took time her honor her NYPD partner.
Miranda raised her glass, and nominated Brendan for the station’s First Responder Friday. Thanking him for his service, the “It All Comes Out in the Wash” singer gave McLoughlin a sweet salute.
"My whole family does it. My mom, my dad, my three brothers, my brother-in-law - they're all cops. So, I had no other choice," Brendan laughed. "I was in nursing school for a bit, and I chose being a police officer and it was the best decision I ever made, truly."
The moment stuck with Miranda, and it has inspired her to honor First Responders throughout her upcoming Wildcard Tour. Radio listeners can now nominate their own First Responder in each city along the way, with one honoree being chosen for each show to receive a pair of tickets and meet-and-greet passes.
"I was really inspired by Kelly Ford, who honors a first responder every Friday on her show, and last November I got to nominate my husband, Brendan," Miranda says in a statement. "I wanted to be able to spread that to every city we’re visiting on the 'Wildcard Tour,' and say thank you to the brave men and women who keep those places safe.”
“It’s been incredibly inspiring to hear stories of local heroes, and I’m honored to have them as our guests every night.”
"I make it a point every time we go to a different city; See a cop, 'thank you.' Military vet, 'thank you.' I feel like everyone should do that," McLoughlin told RADIO.COM.
The Wildcard Tour kicks off on January 16 in Tupelo, MS along with Cody Johnson and LANCO. You can find the full list of upcoming dates here.
