Reese Witherspoon and Apple Team Up For Country Music Competition

The new show searches for Country music's best, around the globe

Reese Witherspoon and Apple TV are putting singing competition shows on alert, announcing the production of My Kind of Country.

The Morning Show actor tweeted about the project with her streaming partner. "I am beyond excited to share that @HelloSunshine will be partnering with @AppleTV to bring y’all it’s very first competition series called 'My Kind of Country'…. the search for extraordinary country music talent,” she said. “Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, Country music has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. The history of songwriting and recording, the artistry of matching lyrics and chords, the true expression of what is happening to humanity right now...”

Apple says the series will conduct a global search for Country music talent in a documentary format telling the stories of each artist.

This marks the third project Witherspoon and Apple have worked on with her production company, Hello Sunshine, which is dedicated to celebrating female storytelling. She and the streamer are behind popular shows like Truth Be Told and The Morning Show. “Well, it’s not looking like I’ll ever fulfill my childhood dreams of becoming Dolly Parton,” Witherspoon wrote on Instagram. “But this might just be the next best thing.”

Witherspoon has a deep connection with Country music fans who saw her play June Carter Cash in the 2005 film Walk the Line. She won both a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award portraying Johnny Cash’s wife in the biopic.

A global pandemic hasn’t stopped Reese from owning the internet. She recently started a celebrity trend, posting stills from previous work to create virtual 2020 mood boards.
