Betty White gets ready for 99th birthday and reveals what keeps her going

Turning 99 and feeling fine!

The legendary Betty White is celebrating her 99th birthday this weekend and is sharing some tips on how she keeps a good sense of humor and enjoys life.

White was featured in this week's People issue ahead of her birthday.

"I don't like the other side," White said. "The positive side is a lot more fun.”

White, an actress and comedian, shows no signs of slowing down. White began her life in Oak Park, Illinois, and later spent several decades on screen.

The soon to be 99-year-old got her start in radio and television, eventually creating a career that has lasted for over 80 years. White has won multiple Emmys and has starred in memorable roles including, "The Golden Girls," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," and more.

While she continues to steal the hearts of many, White often thinks about what she is grateful for in life.

"I am blessed with good health," White said. "So turning 99 is no different than turning 98."

What is the one thing that keeps her going?

"A sense of humor," White shared. "Don't take yourself too seriously. You can lie to others — not that I would — but you cannot lie to yourself."

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, White explained how her birthday would be a quiet one this year. She is looking forward to "visiting with close friends and bringing food to my animal friends" once life becomes normal again.

During the global outbreak, White has been staying home to protect herself from contracting the deadly virus.

In general, the award-winning actress has been letting loose through the ordeal, sipping on vodka martinis while snacking on French fries and hot dogs. She has also attempted to play Scrabble with friends over Zoom but misses game nights.
