Iconic on-screen heartthrobs Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger captivated audiences across the country in the 1999 teen classic “10 Things I Hate About You.”

But fans of the film maybe be surprised to learn about an alleged secret romance happening behind the scenes.

Director Gil Junger spoke during a recent Spanish-language YouTube chat series “Mará a Quién Encontré" (Look Who I Found) where he reminisced about Stiles' relationship with "(500) Days of Summer" actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Junger said the two began having feelings for each other while working on set of the film, and dated “for a minute, or 10,” People reports.

"They were very, very attracted to each other, which was cute," Junger said. "She's professing her love to Heath and she's in love with a guy waiting in his trailer to shoot the next scene."

He added, "Watching them, it was beautiful how much they enjoyed each other."

The director discussed the famous scene where Julia’s character, Kat, reads her “10 Things” poem during class, saying that her performance only took a single take to shoot and even had the director in tears by the end.

"It was so raw, and it was so honest and so vulnerable," Junger said, before saying he had asked Stiles who she was thinking about while filming the scene.

"She told me, 'I was just thinking about' that person's name that she was deeply in love with at the time," Junger said. "It wasn't me, certainly, but it wasn't Heath either. That was one of the magical performances that I've recorded in my lifetime."

The reporter pointed out that although Stiles and Ledger didn’t date in real life, their “chemistry is amazing.”
