“This film, this universe, has been a gigantic passion project of mine for a very long time,” Johnson said in the 4-minute clip. “The film has without question some of the biggest action sequences I have ever been a part of.”

The character of Black Adam as an anti-hero and the archenemy of Shazam.

After introducing the teaser, Johnson gave fans an exclusive glimpse at some of the opening scenes of the film as an armed group is seen unearthing what turns out to be Black Adam. While they fire their weapons on him, it is futile as a hooded and bulletproof Black Adam rises from the depths.

Back in 2019, Johnson disclosed how “honored” he was to play Black Adam and gave insight into the character.

“Black Adam is blessed by magic with the powers equal to Superman, but the difference is he doesn’t toe the mark or walk the line. He’s a rebellious, one of a kind superhero, who’ll always do what’s right for the people – but he does it his way,” Johnson wrote in an emotional Instagram post.

“Truth and justice – the Black Adam way. This role is unlike any other I’ve ever played in my career and I’m grateful to the bone we’ll all go on this journey together.”

“Black Adam” is a spinoff of “Shazam!” starring Zachary Levi.

In addition to Johnson, the film features Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.

“Black Adam” is scheduled to hit theaters on July 29, 2022.
