'Jeopardy!' Champ James Holzhauer Reacts to Andrew Luck's Retirement

James Holzhauer may have won our hearts during his winning streak on “Jeopardy!,” but he’s a sports fanatic through and through, and he’s got something to say about quarterback Andrew Luck’s retirement announcement.

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck announced during a press conference Sunday that his short-lived NFL career would be coming to a close. He revealed that for mental and physical reasons, cutting ties with professional football was the right decision.

“This is not an easy decision,” he explained. “Honestly, it’s the hardest decision of my life. But it is the right decision for me.”

Luck had experienced a few game-jeopardizing injuries over the years, including a torn labrum that had him out for an entire season in 2017.

“I’ve been stuck in this process. I haven’t been able to live the life I want to live,” he said. “It’s taken the joy out of this game…The only way forward for me is to remove myself from football.”

Holzhauer quickly took to Twitter to react to Luck’s decision to leave, starting with high praise for the former Colts QB. “I hope to be as brave as Andrew Luck one day,” he writes.

“Imagine reaching the pinnacle of the only job you’ve ever trained for, finding no joy in it, and having the guts to do the right thing for yourself even though millions of fans will hate you for it,” he continues.

Many of said hateful fans flooded the replies of Holzhauer’s tweet, but a few supportive fans chimed in as well.

“Colts fan here. Health comes first. He made the right decision,” one user writes.
