Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About 'Crazy' Romances With Diddy and Ben Affleck

Jennifer Lopez’s love don’t cost a thing but it does have a history of making headlines.

While the pop diva is happily engaged to future fourth husband Alex Rodriguez, she was previously involved in some of the most high-profile relationships of the last two decades.

During a sit-down interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Lopez looked back at her romances with music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Oscar winner Ben Affleck, reported Yahoo.

Early in her career the “Waiting for Tonight” songstress dated Diddy, who used to go by Puff Daddy and Puffy, from 1999 to 2001.

“The Puffy era was just kind of a crazy, heightened time in my life,” Lopez said. “You know, Puffy and I both grew up in the Bronx. He had been in the music business and had all this success; I was just starting and making my first album when I met him. He became kind of a mentor to me in that moment. We had this kind of crazy, tumultuous relationship that ended in a bang.”

While the duo were famously involved in a shooting outside a Manhattan nightclub in 1999, Lopez was quickly exonerated and Combs was later found not guilty on a weapons violations. Despite the altercation, Lopez holds no ill-will toward the “All About the Benjamins” rapper.

She added: “He was meant to be in my life at that moment to teach me what I needed to know about the music business, about what kind of artist I wanted to be in the music industry.”

In 2002, she began dating Ben Affleck and quickly got engaged. While they never made it down the altar, their “Bennifer” moniker still haunts Lopez to this day.

“As for the ‘Bennifer era’ — this is so weird I’m talking about this, to talk in this way, I’m just using those words because you used them,” she said to interviewer Tony Dokoupil.

The pair would star in two films together (“Gigli” and “Jersey Girl”) as well as the video for her monster hit “Jenny From the Block.” And while they seemed to be courting the media coverage, the intense scrutiny soon became too much to handle.

“Ben wanted to be — believe it or not — quiet and not be in the tabloids,” she confessed. “And it was the beginning of the tabloid era, and we were kinda out there. I remember stacks of magazines and we were on it every week. It was scary. It was overwhelming for both of us.”

While neither relationship lasted, Lopez believes their authenticity is what made them both special and why the world became captivated by them.

“These were people in my life who I really cared about and fell in love with,” she continued. “[I] had a very special, very unique relationships with both those people, and I think maybe that’s what captured the public’s attention in a sense.”

The “Hustlers” actress got engaged to Rodriguez in March and a wedding is expected sometime in 2020.
