With the launch of HBO’s new streaming service, HBO Max, we have quickly ushered in a new and unusual talk show host, which certainly stands out from the rest. 2020 has brought a new level of fame for beloved Muppet, Elmo, as he now hosts, The Not-Too-Late Show With Elmo.
Just as James Corden and Trevor Noah have fantastic musical guests on their talk shows, Elmo has taken a cue from his counterparts. On the first episode of the series, Kacey Musgraves and Lil Nas X joined our red fuzzy friend to perform classic Sesame Street hits.
Musgraves gave a sweet and simple acoustic performance of "Rubber Ducky" to an audience full of eager kids and vibrant Muppets, while Lil Nas X shares that he’s always wanted to sing a rendition of “Elmo’s Song.” Much to Elmo’s delight the “Old Town Road” singer gives us a version of “Elmo’s Song” over a paired down rap beat and puts his own twist on the second verse.
While these sweet moments shared between Elmo, Kacey and Lil Nas X were meant for younger viewers, we couldn’t help but enjoy the wonderful sentiment that came from seeing two musical, powerhouse, icons partake in something so youthful and joyous.
The Not-Too-Late Show With Elmo is available now on HBO Max.
