Matthew McConaughey explains ‘salt water and snot’ kiss with Kate Hudson

Whenever actors play a romantic couple in a film, things tend to get spicy yet awkward.

After Kate Hudson revealed that Matthew McConaughey had snot on his face while filming the 2008 movie “Fool’s Gold,” the actor is sticking up for himself.

In October, Hudson shared who her worst on-screen kiss was, but luckily, it had nothing to do with the actor’s actual lip-locking techniques. The actress told Gwyneth Paltrow on “The Goop Podcast” that McConaughey had been her worst.

Hudson explained, “The thing is, every time I kiss McConaughey, it’s like, I mean, it’s like there’s just something happening and there’s like snot or wind, or things are just… like when we were kissing in the end of Fool’s Gold, we’re like in the ocean, we like had the plane crash. He just had snot all over his face.”

McConaughey told Yahoo! that the scene they filmed when the kiss happened was, in fact, a difficult one.

“It’s like, ‘OK, here’s the scene: You’ve just jumped from the helicopter. You’re in the middle of the ocean. You go under the water, so on action, go into the water and then come up out of the water like you’re gasping for air,” McConaughey said. “You’re glad to be alive! Then you look at each other and you swim to each other and [go] into an embrace.”

As the actor remembered the tough scene, he shared it involved “a lot of salt water and snot.”

Even after starring alongside Hudson in “Fool’s Gold” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, McConaughey revealed that several of his romantic scenes with the actress have been awkward.
