The Reel Buzz: ‘Mortal Kombat’ trailer pulls out all the punches ahead of HBO Max premiere

Let the fighting begin!

The first trailer for the upcoming reboot of “Mortal Kombat” has been released and it doesn’t skimp on the brutal clashes made famous by the popular video game, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The clip features many of the franchise’s popular characters such as Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Shang Tsung, Sonya Blade, Goro, among others.

The film's premise centers around a martial-artist named Cole Young who is unaware of his family lineage and is recruited to fight in the legendary tournament to save the planet.

The cast includes Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden,  Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, and Mehcad Brooks as Jackson "Jax" Briggs.

In addition to the bloody confrontations, the trailer features Scorpion uttering one of the most popular “Mortal Kombat” catchphrases: "Get over here!"

The martial arts fantasy action film is being helmed by first-time director Simon McQuoid.

This latest incarnation follows the two previous live-action theatrical adaptations from the ‘90s.

The original 1995 film, “Mortal Kombat,” starred Christopher Lambert, Robin Shou, Linden Ashby, and Bridgett Wilson and spent three weeks at the top of the box office.

Two years later, “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation” was released to less critical and box office success.

With 27 years since the last film, Warner Bros. is hoping the latest adaptation will draw in a new generation of fans.

“Mortal Kombat” is set to be released in theaters and for 31 days on HBO Max starting April 16.
