The Reel Buzz: Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo to star in new series from 'GLOW' creators

Apple is coming out with a new anthology series all about what it means to be a woman, and it features an A-list cast.

Starring Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever, and Alison Brie, the show, "Roar," is based off of a book of short stories by Cecelia Ahern. The show is also created by "GLOW" creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Roar" will be a compilation of eight half-hour episodes - each one focusing on a different female point of view in a wide range of genres.

The show will hit Apple TV+, joining "Physical," "Pachinko," "Foundation," "The Shrink Next Door," and others. Apple has just won its first Golden Globe for Jason Sudeikis' appearance in "Ted Lasso."

Recently, it was announced that Kidman would be playing Lucille Ball in a new film about the legendary "I Love Lucy" star's marriage. Despite criticism over being cast in the role, Kidman is excited to take on the challenge.

“I was like, 'Yeah, I would love to give it a go,'” she said, describing her decision to take on the part. "With Aaron [Sorkin's] words and his direction and Javier… that's kind of a wonderful prospect to, you know. But yikes, off we go. Give it a go. Try my best—see if I can do it."

"Being the Ricardos" will also feature Javier Bardem as Ball's then-husband and "I Love Lucy" costar Desi Arnaz.

“She's an amazing woman,” Kidman added. “I'm very excited for people to see what Aaron found out about her and the way he's interpreted Desi and Lucy and the way that it's so rich. I didn't know any of this.”

During the interview, the “Eyes Wide Shut” actress said she’d been studying Ball by watching old episodes of the classic sitcom, which ran on CBS from 1951 to 1957 for 180 episodes over six seasons.
