In his new tell-all book titled “Welcome to Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office,” Brian Baumgartner -- best known for playing Kevin Malone on the sitcom -- recalls the time Gregg Daniels wanted John Krasinski’s character, Jim, to cheat on Pam played by Jenna Fischer.

The book notes that the storyline was supposed to be introduced during an episode titled “After Hours” on season 8.

Daniels proposed that Jim would make out with Cathy (played by Lindsey Broad), who was Pam’s replacement at Dunder Mifflin while she was on maternity leave.

According to the book, Daniels was hoping the plot would “inject a bit of upset in the tranquility at that point and try and get the intensity back.”

However, Krasinski spoke up and shut the idea down.

"That’s the only time I remember putting my foot down," Krasinski said in the book, per TODAY. "'Cause (Greg) was saying 'You're going to actually make out with her in this scene.' I remember saying things that I never thought I’d say before, like, ‘I’m not going to shoot it.'"

The actor divulged that he knew he was making the right call because of how much support the couple has gotten from fans.

“My feeling is there is a threshold with which you can push our audience. They are so dedicated. We have shown such great respect to them,” he recalled telling Krasinski

"But there’s a moment where if you push them too far, they’ll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they’ll never come back,” he added.

The book is available on Amazon for $20, makes a great holiday gift for any “Office” fan, reunites the iconic cast after nearly a decade for all the inside stories and untold secrets.

It includes hundreds of hours of exclusive interview with cast members including Steve Carell, Ricky Gervais, Rainn Wilson, Angela Kinsey, Craig Robinson, and more.
