Tracee Ellis Ross Joins Regina King and More for All-Black Rendition of ‘Golden Girls’

Tracee Ellis Ross, Regina King, Sanaa Lathan, and Alfre Woodard are coming together to recreate “The Golden Girls” with an all-Black, female cast.

Ross took to Instagram to post the project’s promo, which included a video showing the original “Golden Girls” group before it changes to show their heads on the original cast’s bodies.

Lathan appears on Blanche’s body, and King is placed on Dorothy. Ross is positioned as Rose and Woodard as Sophia.

The "Blackish" star told fans to click on the link in her Instagram bio, which brings you to a virtual event page called “Zoom Where It Happens.”

The website shares that screenwriter and producer Lena Waithe will be hosting a rendition of “Golden Girls” with a reimagined, all-Black cast, starring Ross, King, Lathan, and Woodard on Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. EST.

“In an effort to further engage our community and drive change, all you need to do to enjoy this evening is sign up to receive messages about how you can make a change during this election,” the website added.

The first episode is in partnership with Zoom Video Communications and will support nonprofit civil rights advocacy organization Color of Change. Gina Prince-Bythewood will direct the project.
