Walmart Planning Pop Up Drive-In Theaters In 160 Store Parking Lots

Rolling out the red carpet

Retail giant Walmart is planning on converting 160 of its store parking lots into full on drive-in movie theater experiences beginning in August.

Walmart will be rolling out the red carpet experience for a combined 320 family-friendly showings through October, featuring hit movies, special appearances from filmmakers and celebs, and concessions being delivered right to customer's cars.

Ahead of each flick, audiences will also be treated to one of a number of short films, including Bilby, Bird Karma, Brooklyn BreezeCROW: The LegendFire in Cardboard CityINVASION!, Looney Tunes’ Boo! Appetweet, and Marooned.

Actor Drew Barrymore will serve as virtual host for all of the events. She’ll also show up for a special surprise in-person appearance at one of the many locations participating, as will Jennifer Garner, LeBron James, Chrissy Metz, and director Peter Berg.

The retail chain also rolled out a series of virtual "summer camps," teaming up with celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Neil Patrick Harris, LeBron James, Idina Menzel and Todd Oldham to bring Camp by Walmart to kids starting on July 8th. Families can access 50 activities for free just by visiting the Walmart app.
