Whoopi Goldberg returning for ‘Sister Act 3’ on Disney+

Sister Mary Clarence is back!

After nearly 30 years, Whoopi Goldberg will don a habit again to star in the long-awaited third film in the “Sister Act” franchise, reported Variety.

Disney has announced “Sister Act 3” is currently in development with Goldberg starring and producing the picture alongside movie mogul Tyler Perry.

While no release date was revealed, the company did confirm “Sister Act 3” will premiere on its Disney+ streaming platform.

Goldberg last took on the role of lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier, who poses as singing nun Sister Mary Clarence, in the 1993 sequel “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.” She originated the character in the 1992 original film, “Sister Act.”

It is unclear if other stars of the franchise like Kathy Najimy and Maggie Smith will make an appearance.

News of the latest sequel came during an investor presentation, where Disney also announced it would launch “roughly” 10 new Marvel series and 10 new “Star Wars” series over the next few years on its streaming platform.

In addition, DIsney+ will also premiere 15 live-action, animation and Pixar series and 15 Disney live action, Disney Animation, and Pixar features during the same time frame.
