Drake and The Weeknd Make Six-Figure Donations to Black Lives Matter Causes

The duo has donated a combined $600,000

Drake and The Weeknd have both made significant donations to Black Lives Matter causes.

The Weeknd shared images of his donations on a recent Instagram post, which include $200,000 to Black Lives Matter Global Network, $200,000 to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights movement, and $100,000 to National Bail Out.

“Keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there risking everything to push for actual change for our black lives,” he wrote in a post.

Urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big and if you have less please give what you can even if it's a small amount. #blacklivesmatter.”

Drake made a $100,000 donation to National Bail Out after fellow Toronto songwriter Mustafa The Poet donated $400 and tagged Drake and The Weeknd in an Instagram story.

"My Toronto Kings @champagnepapi @theweeknd," he wrote. "Swipe up & match my donation but add 3 zeros! Let's help reunite black families."

Drake responded with the six-figure donation, but ran into some trouble as his bank initially thought it was fraud.

"They just called fraud on my card LOL," he told Mustafa before it cleared. "I donated 100k. They were like nah 😂."

The news of the duo’s donations comes as artists are participating in “BlackOut Tuesday” where the music industry is pausing its business to open conversation and support the Black community.

Artists like Rihanna, Normani, Katy Perry, and more have participated thus far on social media. The movement also provides resources to get involved along with other material to help show solidarity.
